Reasons A Church Pastor Should Reward the Congregation With Plaques

Church Pastor needs plaques

It takes a lot of work to make a church run smoothly. A Pastor’s job goes much deeper than just the Sunday sermon. A person’s church is often a focal point of their lives on the other days of the week as well. While the Pastor’s work is tireless, there is almost always a great team contributing to round out the well-oiled machine. That team and those efforts should be recognized, which is why we have put together a list of reasons a church Pastor should reward the congregation with plaques.

Recognizing volunteer work – Have you heard the phrase, “90% of the work is done by 10% of the people?” This is true in a lot of churches. Rewarding those people who give of their time accomplishes two goals. It shows those who are working that they are appreciated. It also shows everyone else in the congregation that there are opportunities to help, and that help does not go unnoticed.

Recognizing event work – Has your church recently held a fellowship social, fundraiser, vacation bible school, mission trip, or a picnic? These events all require teams of people to plan, schedule, and carry out. The success of these events helps cement the church’s impact in the community. Presenting a plaque to every single volunteer who makes these events successful helps lay the groundwork for a strong team to run the next event.

Ministry appreciation – Youth ministry, Sunday school, senior outreach, community outreach, marriage counseling and countless other ministries are continually in action. These efforts are often overlooked by the majority of the congregation because they usually take place outside of the sanctuary and, except for Sunday school, outside of the hours of normal services. Presenting a plaque to the people who give their time in different ministries brings thankfulness to what can otherwise seem like thankless work.

Music appreciation – “Now these are the singers, heads of fathers' households of the Levites, who lived in the chambers of the temple free from other service; for they were engaged in their work day and night.” – 1 Corinthians 9:33.  A church’s choir can make all the difference in what the congregation takes away from the service. They echo the Pastor’s words and lift the spirits of everyone with their voices. Acknowledgements of their work and talent are crucial to the morale of the church.

Studies have shown that recognition of volunteer work leads to more volunteers. It’s basic human nature to want to be appreciated and celebrated. Being presented with a plaque in front of their peers is the perfect way to show the hard-working volunteers that the church recognizes and appreciates their efforts.
